Adults training Jiu Jitsu at Legacy

Adults Jiu Jitsu

Get Fitter.
Get Sharper.
Get Part Of Something.

Real fitness, real self defence, and a team that keeps you coming back. Every class is beginner friendly, every belt welcome, no experience required to start.

Two Classes. One Path.

Wherever you start, you'll be looked after. Here's how our classes are structured.

1

Beginners Classes

This is the ideal place to start. Beginners classes are built to capture the basics: the terminology, the fundamental positions, and the basic movements that everything else in Jiu Jitsu is built on. Nobody's rushed, nobody's behind, everyone in the room is learning the same things at the same pace.

2

Regular Classes

Regular classes run for everyone, from complete beginners through to advanced practitioners, all training together. Coaches adapt each session for exactly who's in the room that day, so if you're brand new, you'll be looked after and paired appropriately from your very first class.

Training Built For Real Life

A Real Switch Off

You can't think about work, emails or whatever's stressing you out while someone's trying to pass your guard. It's one of the only genuine mental breaks in most people's week.

Confidence That Follows You Home

Solving problems under pressure on the mats builds a quiet self assurance that shows up everywhere else in life too, not just when you're training.

Friendships You Didn't Expect

Training partners become real friends through shared effort and struggle. No egos, every belt welcome, and a community that sticks around outside class too.

Fitness That Doesn't Feel Like Cardio

A full body workout you'll actually look forward to, without staring at a treadmill counting down the minutes.

Gi Or No Gi. Why We Teach Both.

The Traditional Gi

Gi, said like "ghee", means training in the traditional kimono: jacket, pants and belt. The uniform itself becomes part of the game, you're able to control your partner using grips on the fabric, which makes for a more technical style of training. It's also closer to real world scenarios, since an attacker's clothing is exactly what you might need to control.

  • Grip based game, controlling your partner through the uniform
  • More technical, methodical pace
  • Closer to real world self defence scenarios
  • The foundation we recommend every student starts with

Rashguard And Shorts

No Gi means training in a rashguard and shorts, no jacket or belt, and gripping the clothing isn't allowed. Without fabric to control, the game becomes more dynamic and faster paced.

  • No clothing grips allowed
  • More dynamic, faster paced style of grappling
  • Closer to wrestling and modern submission grappling
  • Builds naturally on a solid Gi foundation

We recommend starting in the Gi and building from there, but we teach both because a genuinely well rounded grappler should be comfortable either way. That's why we run real Gi and No Gi classes every week, not just one as an afterthought.

Everyone Was A Beginner, Once

Our regular classes mix every belt in the same room on purpose. Our higher belts genuinely love helping newer students, and there's real value in learning from someone a few belts ahead of you, they were exactly where you are now, not that long ago.

Every black belt on our mats started exactly where you're about to.

The Power Of Showing Up

Kevin walked onto our mats less than a year ago and made one simple decision, to show up. Almost every single day. No shortcuts, no secret. Everything else that's followed, a QLD State Championship on his white belt included, has come from exactly that.

Since day one you guys have all been so good to me. I've never experienced a community such as this.

Before Jiu Jitsu I was very isolated. And no, being able to talk isn't being social. Truly, I am an introverted soul who would prefer to avoid people and stay home.

I've really found a home amongst you guys. I'm not usually one to speak openly about my feelings, but each and every one of you so openly accepted me and welcomed me into the lifestyle of Jiu Jitsu.

Jiu Jitsu isn't just a sport to me, it's so much deeper and personal than a martial art. Since my cancer, it's really helped me reconnect with the world through people, which seemed impossible some time ago. In a way, Jiu Jitsu has saved my life in every sense of the word, reigniting a new passion which has completely taken over my life, and I'm not complaining.

I am known to be a very resilient person who sucks down all the feelings. Thank you for all the lessons, support, and community.
